Consultant Profile - Amie Cumming

logo-transparent-png.png

As a lifelong educator, Amie has had the opportunity to transform her approach to behavior, school safety, and mental health. Her no-nonsense approach to classroom discipline initially led to many missed opportunities. Learn from Amie's early lack of understanding regarding trauma and mental wellness as it relates to student behavior. Her favorite statement is, "When we know better, we do better."

With over two decades as a classroom teacher, Amie taught countless young people before transitioning to school and district leadership. In her roles as an Assistant Principal, Coordinator of Student Services, and Director of Student and Family Support, she pioneered school and district PBIS implementation, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, Youth Mental Health initiatives, and fostered inclusive environments for students of all ages.

Her greatest accomplishment was the creation of RISE Academy, a groundbreaking initiative offering a fresh start to expelled students in grades 6-12 through positive behavior, high expectations, and mutual respect. Following my retirement from K-12 public education, Amie continued her career with the Georgia Department of Education as the School Climate Transformation Grant Manager, Digital Resources Program Manager, and Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainer.

Today, Amie remains a passionate advocate for valuing and respecting every child, believing that these principles are fundamental to creating thriving learning spaces. She is a champion to the idea that modeling behavior and fostering a sense of belonging in the classroom are key to creating a thriving learning environment. It is with great pleasure that she offers training to educators who strive to create places where students can't wait to arrive and never want to leave.
